The Hanging Village of Habala
Saudi Arabia
Places
Once accessible only by rope ladders, the Hanging Village of Habala clings to the cliffs of the Asir Mountains in Saudi Arabia. This historic village, built by the indigenous Qahtani people, showcases traditional mountain architecture with stone structures and steep terraces that reflect a rich cultural heritage. Its dramatic setting and isolation served both defensive purposes and preservation of local customs. Today, the site is accessible via cable car and remains a striking example of vernacular architecture harmonized with extreme topography.
