Laas Geel Cave Paintings
Somalia
Places
The Laas Geel cave paintings are among the oldest and best-preserved examples of Neolithic rock art in Africa. Located near Hargeisa in Somaliland, these vivid depictions of cattle, giraffes, and ceremonial humans date back over 5,000 years. The natural shelters in the rock overhangs have helped preserve the detailed ochre and white iconography, showcasing the ritual symbolism and pastoral culture of early inhabitants.
