Ishtar Gate of Babylon
Iraq
Places
The Ishtar Gate stood as one of the grand entrances to the ancient city of Babylon, a luminous vision of glazed blue bricks and golden reliefs of dragons and bulls symbolizing deities. Built by King Nebuchadnezzar II around 575 BCE, it exemplifies Neo-Babylonian architecture and the empire’s mastery of art, power, and sacred symbolism. As part of the Walls of Babylon, it was once one of the original Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
