Maqam Echahid (Martyrs' Memorial)
Algeria
Places
A symbolic concrete monument standing high above Algiers, Maqam Echahid was inaugurated in 1982 to commemorate the Algerian War of Independence. Its three stylized palm-shaped pillars represent the resilience of the Algerian people, converging skyward to symbolize unity and sacrifice. Blending brutalist architecture with national symbolism, the structure offers a powerful tribute to the martyrs who fought for liberation.
